South Africa: Condolences to the President and the People of the Republic of Ghana

press release

On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of South Africa, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation would like to extend its heartfelt condolences to the Government and the people of the Republic of Ghana following the collapse of the multi-storey department store, Melcom, in Accra, Ghana. South Africa mourns the loss of lives during this unfortunate incident.

Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the deceased and those that were injured, and we wish to express our solidarity to the Government and the people of Ghana during this difficult time of mourning.

South Africa maintains excellent bilateral relations with Ghana, as was illustrated during the High Level visit to Ghana led by the Deputy President in April 2012.

The investigation into the tragedy as instructed by President Mahama will bring closure to those families who have lost their loved ones in the line of duty.
