Rwanda: Houseboy Steals Over Rwf8 Million, Arrested Enroute to Uganda

Police in Kigali is holding 24-year old house-help who had allegedly stolen USD 7000 and Rwf3.8 million belonging to his American boss.

The suspect allegedly stole the money in the wee hours of November 9 and was arrested in Nyagatare yesterday while planning to escape to Uganda.

He had worked for the American for over a year.

Central region's Police Spokesperson, Superintendent Albert Gakara, said that after Police investigations, the suspect was arrested and found with the stolen cash.

Gakara stated that the suspect faces two to five years' imprisonment or paying back 2 to 5 times the value of the stolen money on conviction.

He called upon the public not to keep lots of money within their houses but to instead keep it in a bank.

He also urged the public to always report to the police such incidences so the police can carry out timely investigations.

The American who wasn't comfortable having his name in the press, thanked the Rwanda police for its timeliness and integrity.
