CEMENT maker Bamburi Limited has urged contractors and other stakeholders in the construction industry that quality and not price should determine the building materials they use.

Speaking at a workshop hosted at the weekend by the firm for players in the construction industry, Bamburi MD Hussein Mansi noted that long term benefits of using high quality material has often been overlooked to cut costs.

"Most of the contractors do not take note of the performance attributes of cement and concrete products they buy but rather focus on price of the product which does not always give them value especially when constructing robust structures," he said.

The firm said it had organized the workshop to forestall cases of collapsing buildings that have caused several deaths in the country in the last few years.

"Bamburi is not only a cement manufacturing company but a construction solutions provider, we have the responsibility of ensuring that the construction industry observes the acceptable standards to ensure buildings are constructed the right way," added Mansi.

The company also used the workshop to formally launch its new products powermax cement made for multi storey buildings and bridges and the bamburi ready mix concrete.
