A boda boda operator in Kakamega who together with two accomplices snatched a motorbike at gunpoint was lynched by an angry mob on Friday.
The middle aged man was identified by the man whose bike he'd stolen a fortnight before and was then frogmarched to Kakamega police station where he took the police to Lwesero area to capture his accomplice.
Members of the public then overpowered the police at Maraba and descended on the suspect, beating him unconscious before he died at the Western Provincial General hospital where he was rushed. With help from the deceased's accomplice, police recovered an AK-47 rifle, a ceska pistol and 21 rounds of ammunition.
Boda boda operators who camped at the police station for hours disrupting activities at the police station accused the police of colluding with the criminals to commit crime in the town.
They claimed that police did not act on information they volunteered to them on crime. Deputy Western PC Jeremiah Were who adresed the riders before they accepted to leave, promised them that the matter would be looked into keenly and their concerns addressed.
