MRC leader Omar Mwamnuadzi, his wife, daughter and son have been released from Shimo La Tewa prison in Mombasa today. The MRC chairman and his family were released after title deeds offered by Madaraka MP Mike Sonko to secure their release were verified by the Mombasa high court.

The two Kwale plots valued at Sh 3.5 million by state valuers, were to secure the release of Omar Mwamnuadzi, his wife Mwaimuna Hamisi, and the Seargent General Randu Nzai.

Sonko had earlier submitted three title deeds at the Kwale lands office following reports that the documents were fake. A search at the Kwale lands office proved the title deeds offered to secure the release of top officials were genuine.

Mwamnuadzi has been in detention at the Shimo la Tewa Prison since October 15 after being unable to raise a Sh3 million bond which was later reduced to Sh1 million a week ago.

The MRC chairman was charged alongside 37 other members of the group with several counts of incitement and possession of firearms as well as being a member of an unlawful society.
