Egypt: Pope Tawadros: Egypt Is One Homeland

Bishop Tawadros II, the Pope of Alexandria and Saint Mark Diocese has rejected that the church has a quota in the parliament or in any other institution, as this will dedicate discrimination.

He rejected the partition of the homeland into a religious and secular group, saying the new constitution will be short lived if it did not dedicate citizenship, adding he did not fear the growing of Salafi current, describing as good efforts by the freedom and Justice Party to include some Copts in their election lists.

Pope Tawadros said he welcomes the participation of President Mohamed Morsi in his inauguration ceremony adding this however depends on his scheduled.

Tawadros has approved Article 2 of the draft constitution on the role of Islamic Sharia in the state.
