Kenya: Rhino Killed in Laikipia Ranch

A rhino has been poached on Ol Jogi ranch, Nyeri constituency. The incident occurred last week. Gunshots were heard on Wednesday night and community scouts backed by Kenya Wildlife Service rangers rushed to the scene.

According to Aggrey Maumo, KWS Assistant Director for the mountain region, by the time the team reached the area the poachers had already hacked off the rhinos face and made away with the horns.

He stressed on the prevalence of poaching networks in the area who are after the rhinos. Investigations are ongoing as KWS try to find the culprits. The rhino leaves behind a 16-month old calf. The calf was taken to Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
