South Africa: To All Hindu South Africans We Wish a Joyous and Blessed Diwali

press release

On behalf of the Democratic Alliance, I would like to wish all Hindu South Africans a joyous and blessed Diwali.

Diwali is a time of celebration and renewal for Hindus all over the world. The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil and the triumph of light over darkness which is symbolically observed with the lighting of lamps, candles, and fireworks.

At this time of the Hindu New Year, may the spirit of Diwali bring your families and communities closer together and I hope that your path ahead will be a prosperous one.

This occasion is an opportunity to celebrate and affirm South Africa's diversity and reminds us to banish prejudice and ignorance and to foster greater understanding, tolerance and peace.
