Nigeria: Minister, Committee Differ On Science/Mathematics Devt Budget

The Minister of State for Education, Chief. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has differed with the Ministerial Committee on the review of the implementation of Strengthening Mathematics and Science Education (SMASE) Nigeria Project.

While the committee said it presented a budget proposal of N100 million out of which only N34 million was put in the 2013 budget, the Minister insisted that the budget sent to the ministry was for N87 million.

Speaking when he inaugurated the Ministerial Committee in Abuja, Tuesday, Wike lamented that one of the reasons for the slow implementation of the project is the lackadaisical attitude of the parastatals involved in its implementation.

He gave the assurance that the money needed would be provided through counterpart funding.
