MAHOMED MANDHU could be the only other Zimbabwean golfer to join Ryan Cairns in the prestigious South Africa Open Championships after pre-qualifiers rounds held at different courses yesterday. Mandhu finished the qualifying round on two-under-par 70 for a 10th place finish in a field that has 94 players.
The South Africa Open Championships had 282 players taking part in the pre-qualifiers at three different courses.
The event has seen an increase in the number of Zimbabweans taking part.
This year the tournament has the highest number of local players with four amateurs taking part in the event that also falls under the European Tour.
Cairns is expected to lead the local campaign at Serengeti Golf Club from tomorrow.
Mickey Hough tried his luck at the Glendower Golf Club but was not in the top 52 out of the 94 players.
Greg Bentley, Mandhu, Nabeel Umerji and unheralded amateur Styne Sheldon played in the Kempton Park Country Club.
