Namibia: NBC Squares the Lucys

Windhoek — Radio personalities Lucy K and DJ Lucy recently did themselves proud by officially launching their very own show Lucy Squared.

The show boasts entertainment and informative slots on NBC Radio from 15h00 to 18H00 on weekdays, and has been on air since July this year. "We came up with this idea to have our own show and we wrote a proposal, which we ran around with to radio stations hoping that they would like our idea and NBC Radio was the first to get back to us and we partnered with them," says Lucy Kangombe aka Lucy K.She adds that the biggest challenge was selling the idea to radio stations but once the idea was out there has been no going back.

" The show offers listeners a lot to choose from, sports news, information, entertainment and much more and we are here to do what we have always done which I update the nation," she says.Lucy K, having worked with Fresh Fm and Radio Energy, says it is a pleasure to now work with Lucy Kautwima, aka DJ Lucy, who worked for Omulunga Radio on this project, and there is no doubt they will make it a success. "We decided to grow and move out of our comfort zones and what better way to do that than to come up with our very own show that we believe in," she adds.

According to DJ Lucy, the show is unique in that both DJs are called Lucy hence the title the show, Lucy Squared.

"There was a lot of criticism when we started out with people thinking and saying that we wouldn't make it, and I think what has allowed us to work well together is the fact that we have chemistry and we work well together," says DJ Lucy. She adds that the industry alone has been challenging, and like any other career, it has its daily up and downs. However this will not deter the two ambitious young DJs from making their how a success. "We offer our listeners a variety of things and we feel we engage with them in a different but very interactive way. We are still here and we will go forward and keep doing what we are doing," she concludes.
