Kenya: Woman Resists Arrest in Kwanza

A woman waylaid by police reservists in Trans Nzoia caused a commotion at Kwanza police post after she and her family resisted arrest yesterday.

Mary Nasambu, 38, was waylaid by seven reservists at Sabwani on the Kwanza-Kitale road on her way to Kitale town. She was in the company of his brother and father.

"The police reservists roughed me up and pointed guns at me claiming I have to pay for allegedly pointing a panga at the police corporal in a March violence where I lost my three relatives," she said.

The family was going to meet their lawyer in a case where Nasambu's mother, her son and her grandson were killed in a cold blooded murder in March.

It is a alleged the killing may have been carried out by some of the police reservists. Kitale police criminal investigations chief Paul Wachira however said the arrests were in line with an arrest warrant.
