Kenya: Heavy Equity Turnover At NSE, Doubles to 677 Million

The Nairobi All Share eased 0.29 points to close at 92.621. The Nairobi NSE20 firmed 4.75 points to close at 4156.86. Equity Turnover was heavy at 677.46m versus 315.91 million the previous session.

In Commercial and Services:

Safaricom eased 2.085% to close at 4.70 and traded 7.261m shares worth 34.112m. Nation Media rallied 1.315% to close at 231.00 a Fresh 52 Month High and traded shares as high as 240.00 +4.9122% during the Session.

Nation Media traded 13,900 shares and had a Buy versus Sell Imbalance in the Ratio of 95 versus 11. ScanGroup rallied 4.0322% to close at 64.50 and traded 62,500 shares worth 4.052m. ScanGroup has closed at a 25 month closing high and is +57.108% on a total return basis in 2012.

Kenya Airways rallied 1.709% to close at 11.90 and was trading at 12.00 +2.56% at the Closing Bell. Kenya Airways traded 153,400 shares.

Access Kenya closed unchanged at 4.60 and traded 3.112m shares [1.4821% of its shares] worth 14.316m. Access Kenya has retreated 6.122% in 2012 and trades on an 8.679 Trailing PE.


Kenya Commercial Bank traded 5th and closed unchanged at 30.00 which is 0.769% below 30.25 a 53 month closing high from October 29th.

Equity Bank traded 2nd at the Securities Exchange. Equity Bank firmed 1.03% to close at 24.50 a 16 month High previously achieved on November 6th and November 7th.

Equity Bank traded out the Session at session highs of 25.00 +3.09%. Equity Bank traded 4.528m shares worth 111.045m. Equity Bank is +55.105% on a total return basis in 2012.

Barclays Bank ticked 0.68% lower following on yesterdays 2.93% downdraft to close at 14.80 and traded 2.278m shares worth 33.711m. Barclays Bank was turning higher at the finale and trading at 15.00 +0.67% and the 2 session drawdown looks complete.

Diamond Trust Bank ticked a shilling lower to close at 119.00 and traded 111,400 shares worth 13.365m. Centum closed unchanged at 12.50 and traded 3.241m shares worth 40.551m.

In Industrial and Allied:

EABL was the most actively traded share and closed unchanged at 242.00 which is record all time high achieved yesterday. EABL traded 1.083m shares worth 262.13m which represented 38.6931% of the total volume traded.

Diageo announced that they were seeking a Majority Stake [subject to Shareholder and Regulatory Approval] in Dr. Mallya's United Distillers in India and Global Investors remain rightly enamoured with the Growth that they are seeing in Emerging and Frontier Markets. I project a definite 260.00 Objective before Year End and a likelihood EABL can reach 280.00

Mumias Sugar traded 3rd,retreated 4.35% to close at 5.50 and traded 7.611m shares worth 42.071m. Mumias Sugar is +13.2% on a total return basis in 2012.

Kenya Power eased 5 cents to close at 18.35 and was trading session Lows of 18.25 -0.82%,traded 1.544m shares worth 28.36m and was better supplied through todays session. KenGen eased 0.5% to close at 9.90 and traded 290,200 shares. KenGen is +14.45% over the last 4 weeks.
