Seychelles: EU Naval Force Warship ESPS Relampago Visits Seychelles Coast Guard

On the 8th November 2012, the Commanding Officer of the EU Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) warship, ESPS Relampago, paid a visit to the Commander-in-Chief of the Seychelles Coastguard. The aim of the visit was to promote EU NAVFOR's presence and support, in fighting piracy in close co-ordination with the Seychellois authorities.

The Commanding Officer of ESPS Relampago, Lt Cdr Antonio González del Tánago, was welcomed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Seychelles Coast Guard, Lt Col Adeline, and after a conversation and coffee, was given a short tour of the Naval Base.

The Seychelles is an important regional player in the fight against piracy and, courtesy calls are carried out frequently by EU NAVFOR ships during port visits. This kind of visit also aims to improve local co-operation and information sharing between the EU and the regional countries involved in the fight against piracy.
