One Omar Kalleh, a fugitive, was on Tuesday convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of D5, 000 in default to serve a mandatory jail term of three months before the Bundung Magistrates' Court, presided over by Magistrate Kijera.
The convict was charged with two counts of offences. Kalleh is charged with escaping from custody unlawfully, contrary to Section 108 Cap 10:01 Vol III, Laws of The Gambia 2009.
The particulars of the offence stated that on or about the 10th November 2012, the convict escaped from lawful custody at the Tallinding Police Station in the Kanifing Municipality, thereby committed an offence.
On count two he is charged with theft, contrary to Section 256 (a) Cap 10:01 Vol III, Laws of The Gambia 2009.
The particulars of the offence revealed that on or about the 29th September 2012 at Tallinding in the Kanifing Municipality, the convict stole a cash amount of D1, 500 from one Omar Sanyang, thereby committed an offence.
When the facts of the case were read to the convict, he pleaded not guilty.
At that juncture, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Fadera applied for an adjournment of the case.
