Armed herder (file photo): One person has been killed and over 3,000 displaced by bandits in Marigat, Baringo county.

Armed bandits have began escaping from parts of Turkana and Baringo following the decision by the government to deploy the Kenya Defense Forces.

Police were yesterday deployed along the Kenya borders with Ethiopia and Uganda to block bandits from moving out of the country ahead of the crackdown.

"We have already alerted security teams in all districts along the borders to stop possible escape by the bandits", said Rift Valley police boss John Mmbijiwe. The bandits are blamed for killing more than 40 police officers during an ambush in Samburu.
