Kenya: Double Vision

Tusker coach Robert Matano has urged his charges to complete the league and cup double

Tusker FC coach Robert Matano has urged his side to complete the league and FKF Cup double. Matano said his boys were not resting on their laurels.

"They want to make it a memorable season. I have told the boys to go flat out and clinch the FKF Cup. We can do it. Winning the league has given us a big boost that we can win the league," Matano added.

Matano's Tusker face Sofapaka on Sunday in the semifinals and predicted a tough match against the 2010 cup champions. "They are a good side and we know it wont be a pushover but the momentum is with us and I expect the team to qualify for the final" added Matano

He said his side's determination when it mattered the most attitude enabled them to win the league last weekend. "We have a never say die spirit and that mentality is what won us the league," he said.

Matano said preparations for the African Football Confederation Champions League qualifiers slated for next year are underway "The Champions League is a tournament where Kenyan clubs have not performed well over the years. I want to change that. It is never easy and needs planning and many things going your way to do well, but we hope that we can improve. If we can do well in the tournament, then it will show that we are growing as a club, which is what we want to do," he added.

Last season, Tusker were beaten by Rwanda's APR in the tourney's preliminary stages Tusker FC skipper Joseph Shikokoti said the side was relishing the challenge of facing Sofapaka. "Its a huge game. We lost and drew with them in the league so its time we won and qualified for the final and clinched the trophy.

Elsewhere former League champions Sofapaka FC have reportedly expressed interest in Karuturi Sports' striker Kennedy Oduor ahead of the 2013 season.

Reports from the Naivasha based club indicate the player has been targeted as one of the options to bolster the club's striking department.

Kennedy Oduor has been brilliant for the second leg of the season after suffering injury setbacks in the first leg but only managed to score a goal in the campaign. The flowermen managed a 12th finish in the standings while Sofapaka finished fourth with a 16 points gap between them.
