Tanzania: DC Appeals for Support to Restore Infrastructure

Bukoba — BUKOBA District Commissioner (DC), Ms Zipporah Pangani, has appealed to development partners, civil societies and other well-wishers to continue supporting efforts to restore infrastructure damaged by recent rains that were accompanied by strong winds.

She noted that the needed assistance include roofing materials to rehabilitate several houses destroyed by winds in seven wards namely Nyanga, Kahororo, Buhembe, Nshambya, Rwamishenye, Kashai and Kibeta.

Ms Pangani, who is also Chairperson of the District Disaster Committee, said heavy downpours accompanied by strong winds, unroofed several buildings on October 25, this year and damaged farm crops in some areas. She said the committee visited the affected wards and compiled a report indicating that the total loss caused by the rains was estimated at 270.1m/-.

She commended Bukoba Urban Member of Parliament (MP), who is also the Minister for Tourism and Resources, Ambassador Khamis Kagasheki, for his timely intervention and donation amounting to 4m/-. She also thanked Bukoba Municipal Council for donating various items worth 5.7m/-
