West Africa: Obasanjo to Lead Ecowas Election Observers to Ghana

The ECOWAS Commission has appointed former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the Head of its 250-member Election Observer Mission to Ghana general elections on December 7.

The commission also announced that Ghana's former President John Kuffuor, will head its 150-member team to observe Sierra Leone's general elections scheduled for Saturday.

In a statement yesterday, ECOWAS said both teams comprise of representatives of various segments of the West African society, who will carefully observe the conduct of the Presidential, legislative and local elections in both countries.

An ECOWAS assessment mission was in Ghana in October to review preparations for the elections during which the mission members met with various stakeholders.
