After a three-month successful tour of UK and the United States, the Gambia's afromanding sensation, Wednesday returned home, with greater determination of pushing his music to another level. Born Malang Touray and musically Jalex aka Akuntuembarked on a tour of UK and US following the successful launch of his much anticipated album-'Roukouchi', so as to better promote the said album.
As a matter of fact he left The Gambia for the UK, courtesy of Yaram Arts and other partners, marking the start of his 2012 tour of Europe.While on tour of UK, he performed alongside the Senegalese rising mbalax sensation -Assan Njie at the most talked about Senegambia Cultural event in London.
In an interview with What's On, Jalex, who is currently warming up for a mega tour of the Smiling Coast of Africa described the 2012 tour as successful saying his latest tour is as a result of the love Gambians continueto demonstrate towards the music and country in general.
"I left the country safely and met them safely. However, my tour in the UK was a success as can be attested by those who graced the event. Also, my fans in the US appreciate my music thanks to the internet which makes the world a global village. You can be in one part of the world and release songs the people in the other end listen to. This even makes it easy for our diverse fans in all parts of the world," he added.
He said that gone are the days when artist use to experience difficulties in terms of promo especially for their fans. "I performed two concerts in US and the Senegalese mbalax diva -Titi continued on the rest. I then returned to the UK where I did some recordings in the studio. I love Gambia and it is because of my fans in the country that I'm able to go this far," he further stated.
He thencalled on his fellow artists to respect their home base fans stressing that it's important that you gave them a real taste of good stuff. He posited that his tours around the world means a lot for him, and a demonstration that his music is making impact. Jalex also thanked all those who contributed in one way or the other towards making his UK and US tour possible. "I want to thank certain individuals, Yaram Arts in London and Njok Malik and Lamin Cham of the Champion Sounds," he added.
Jalex still remains a prolific figure in the country's afromanding scenewith three successful albums dropped namely 'Bandinya', 'Soma Alfa' and his latest masterpiece 'Roukouchi' which is still blazing the airwaves.
