Kenya: Poghisio Wants Turkwel Opened

A Cabinet minister has demanded for the re-opening of the Turkwel Hydro-Electrict Power Project that has been temporarily closed by KENGENdue to insecurity at the Pokot /Turkana border.

Information and communications minister Samwel Poghiso said security has been beefed up in the area and asked KENGEN to continue with operations.

"The government has boosted security by deploying personnel to provide security to the power plant and protects the lives and property of the Kengen staff and to the local communities," he said adding that there is no reason for the plant to remain closed.
