Nigeria: Obudu Mountain Race - Winners to Grab N24.7 Million

Obudu — The princely sum of N15 million has been set aside for both male and female athletes that would emerge star winners of this year's 8th Obudu Mountain race 2012, Commissioner of Sports and Youth Development in Cross River State, Patrick Ugbe, has confirmed.

Addressing journalists in Obudu, he said the winner in the male category will smile home with the sum of fifty thousand dollars while the female counterpart will also go home with fifty thousand dollars.

The second runners-up in both categories will also win twenty thousand dollars apiece, while the 3rd place winners will be given nine thousand dollars apiece.

Ugbe also confirmed that the 10th place winner will win one thousand dollars in both categories.

"Nigerian best finishers in both men and women categories will be compensated in addition with extra sum of two thousand dollars while the second and third place winners will also smile home with extra $1500 and $1000 in both categories", he said.

For the 4th African Nations Mountain Running Championship which would simultaneously hold in Obudu, the winners will go home with additional N9,750,000 equivalent.

"The winners in the 4th African Nations mountain running championship will go home with equivalent of N9.7 million as follows: $30,000 will go to both male and female that win the first prize. The 2nd and 3rd runners up will also be given $10,000 each for both male and female and $7,500 each for male and female in the 3rd place", he said.

For the media race, the sum of $2000 will go to the first place winner. 2nd runner up and third runner up will equally win $1500 and $1000 respectively, he said.

Ugbe said that in the children category whose participants are mainly those from the Obudu neighbourhood, the winner will win N100,000, runner up N80,000 and the 3rd place N50,000.00.
