Nigeria: Woman, 25, Docked for Allegedly Killing Neighbour in Fight Over Water

A 25- year-old woman was arraigned in Lagos on Friday for allegedly killing her neighbour following a fight while they were fetching water.

Alice Atubu, who resides at No 18, Michael Oladele St., Odogunyan, Ikorodu, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful killing before an Ebute Meta Magistrates' Court.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Onaiwu Iyobosa, told the court that the defendant was on Oct. 21 involved in a quarrel with the deceased, one Rebecca Simeon (25), while they were fetching water.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant allegedly hit the victim with her fist in the stomach, resulting in her death.

Iyobosa said that the alleged offences contravene Sections 221 and 231 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The defendant's plea was not taken by Magistrate Oluwakemi Doja- Ojo who ordered that the defendant be remanded in Ikoyi prison pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.

She adjourned the case to Dec.21 for mention
