Nigeria: Monarch Accuses PDP of Injustice Over Selection of Candidates

Kaduna — The traditional titles holder of Dangaladiman Fagachin Zazzau, Alhaji Mustapha Adamu Ubaidu, yesterday accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for perpetrating injustice by replacing the candidate that won the party's primary in Zaria local government for the forthcoming local government polls in Kaduna State.

Alhaji Ubaidu said replacing Suleiman Garba with Lawal Balarabe as the party's flag bearer for Zaria local government in the forthcoming election has cast an aspersion on the integrity of the party.

"Suleiman Garba won the primary election with 379 votes and he was declared the winner only for us to receiving the shocking news that he was replaced with Lawal Balarabe who has not even contested the election.

This is why we are calling on the party to reconsider its decision. We are loyal members of the party but we have to fight for our rights because we don't want the party to lose Zaria local government. This is why we instituted a case at the Federal High Court, Kaduna to claim back what belongs to us," Alhaji Ubaidu said.

When contacted the Vice Chairman of Kaduna State PDP, Ibrahim Aliyu Husono, said the party had decided to disqualify Suleiman Garba over tax clearance.

"He was having problem with his tax clearance and we have told him to sort out that issue but he failed to do so. We don't want to lose the seat to opposition if he wins that was why he was disqualified. According to our record, Lawal Balarabe has contested the primary election and that was why he was picked," Husono said.
