Kenya: Family in Hiding Over Kin's Death

A teacher's family in Pala in Rachuonyo North has gone into hiding after villagers razed their four houses and destroyed property of unknown value.

Tom Oliech, a head teacher at Migunde Primary School, and his family were accused by the villagers of brutally beating and killing his brother Patrick Lumumba.

Rachuonyo DC William Lenaremo said Oliech's two sons allegedly beat and injured Lumumba who later died at the Homa Bay District Hospital.

Lenaremo said Oliech and Lumumba quarelled over Lumumba's wish to demolish their late mother's house.

Two of Oliech's permanent houses and two semi permanent houses were razed down while an unknown head of cattle was stolen during the incident.
