Kenya: Bureau Rejects Waiting Cards

The National Registration Bureau yesterday said it will not allow the use of waiting cards in the voter registration.

Deputy directer Mumia Kisabuli said it will be fraudulent to use the waiting cards because there are no mechanism to verify the authenticity of the holder.

Kisabuli said the idea can only work if their network is intertwined with the IEBC.

"Waiting cards are counterfoils for requesting identification cards. They are not ID cards. Its imprudent to use that document . It will be fraudulent," he said.

He dismissed recent media reports that there are 2 million Kenyans with ID cards and said the bureau in its records, has only 150,000 applications in the last week.
