Egypt: FJP Calls for Swift Trial of Culprits in Railway Disaster

The Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) demanded on Saturday the swift trial of the culprits responsible for the Assiut railway disaster.

It called for striking with an iron fist the corrupt who were created by the former regime and who spread in most vital facilities especially in that of transportation and railways.

Fifty people, mostly children, were killed and fifteen others were injured when a school bus crashed into a train as the bus was trying to cross tracks in Assiut's Manfalout.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the FJP welcomed the resignation of Transport Minister Mohamed Rashad al-Matini as he is politically responsible for the accident.

His resignation is "a democratic tradition missed in the past," the FJP stated.
