Egypt: Deputy Head of Railway Authority Chosen as Acting Head After Assiut Crash

Deputy head of the Egyptian Railway Authority was appointed on Saturday as acting head of the authority until further notice, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported a source at the Transport Ministry as saying.

Transport Minister Mohamed Rashad al-Matini accepted the resignation of head of the railway authority Mostafa Qenawi and put him to investigation.

The minister himself offered his resignation to President Mohamed Mursi out of his political responsibility for the accident.

Death toll of the Assiut train-bus crash on Saturday morning rose to 47 children in addition to their bus driver while 13 others were injured, an Interior Ministry's media office official said.
