Nigeria: NCC Restates Stance Over Purchase of Pre-Registered SIM

The Nigerian Communications Commissions, NCC has advised Nigerians to desist from buying pre-registered SIMS as it is destroying the country's database.

The Commission's Head of Enforcement, Mr. Efosa Idehen, who spoke on behalf of the commission recently in Abuja also advised people selling SIM cards to beware of people who come to ask for pre-registered SIMS because they could be victims.

"We are using this medium, again, to advise Nigerians to desist from buying pre-registered SIM cards, and also to let those who are involved in this activity to know that they are destroying the database we are trying to build for the Nigerian government.

The registration of SIM card became critical because of some developmental issues we want to tackle in the future. Having bad data will compromise that database, and we are going to do all things possible to ensure that the Nigeria Communications database of telephone subscribers is the best database in Nigeria."
