THE 11th edition of the Kilimanjaro Marathon scheduled to take place on 3rd March 2013 in Moshi has been launched.
Speaking at the launch in Dar es Salaam, the Tanzania Breweries Limited Marketing Director, Kushilla Thomas said Kilimanjaro Premium Lager is once again the main sponsor of Kilimanjaro Marathon which continues to grow bigger and better every year as it seeks to expose the untapped talent in the grass root and allow upcoming athletes to grow and be world beaters.
"Kilimanjaro Premium Lager's involvement in athletics is aimed at developing athletics by nurturing talents, providing a platform for local athletes to compete with their international counterparts, thereby growing the base of active athletes in the country," said Kushilla.
She added that Kilimanjaro Premium Lager wants to attract the cream of Tanzanian runners with a view to raising the quality of local athletes so that Tanzanian runners could once again compete on the world stage. On his part, the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Brand Manager, George Kavishe said:
"Getting the very best runners from many countries helps us show the world what the Kilimanjaro Marathon is all about but to promote and encourage Tanzanian athletes is our main priority, for that reason we have introduced a separate 3m/- prize purse for Tanzanian athletes who will finish first on both men and women categories of the 42km Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Marathon and that will be on top of what they get for their respective positions."
"We will once again recognise athletes by rewarding them handsomely with good prize monies and their supporters through first class entertainment." The prize monies for 1st-3rd placed winners men/women in the 42.195km marathon will be to the tune of 10m/- in 2013 with the 1st placed winner men/women taking home 3m/- each, . 1.5m/- for second placed as well as 850,000/- for the third placed winners, which Kavishe described as an exciting incentive to attract top world class runners, encourage record breakers and celebrate an eleventh year of this great race.
"Kilimanjaro Marathon preparations are already underway to make sure that the forthcoming race is one of the best ever as it is our tradition to come up with improvements and give runners and spectators a new experience every year," he said.
