Kenya: Six Die in Nairobi Matatu Explosion

At least six people died yesterday following an explosion in a mini-bus( matatu) in Eastleigh area in Nairobi. Emergency services rushed the injured to various hospitals in Nairobi. Some of those injured in the explosion have since been discharged from hospital.

Police and officials at the Kenyatta National Hospital say 21 patients with multiple injuries are still admitted in the hospital, they include a suspect who witnesses claim was behind the blast. The Police say they are yet to interrogate the suspect in but reported that he is in a stable condition.

Calm has so far returned to the busy Eastleigh area which was last night in chaos following clashes between local communities.

Police say the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive devise that had been abandoned in the vehicle.
