The Nigerian Navy said its multi-purpose frigate, NNS Aradu will be reinvigorated. The ship which was commissioned in 1982 has not been fully functional due to major mechanical defects.
The Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba said at a media briefing in Lagos that the naval fleet would be revamped for continuous operation at the sea to prevent crime.
"I have given instruction to the chief of training and operations to provide what is lacking in the ships," he said.
He noted that the a recent joint military fleet evaluation exercise put together by the navy at the Gulf of Guinea indicated that the naval fleet must be functional at all time to prevent oil theft and piracy.
