Nigeria: New Islamic Calendar - Sultan Calls for Prayers, Peaceful Co-Existence

Kaduna — President-General of the Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar 111, yesterday called on Muslims to use the new Islamic year to pray for peaceful co-existence between them and non-Muslims, and development of the country.

A statement signed by the Secretary-General, JNI, Dr. Khalid Abubakar in Kaduna said, "The President-General of Jama'atu Nasril Islam, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar felicitates with the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and beyond over the commencement of the new Hijrah year, 1434 AH, which started on Thursday, November 15, 2012, (1st day of Muharram,1434 AH).

Therefore, he reminds the Muslim Ummah to fast Tasu'a (9th) and Ashura (10th). Fasting of the month of Muharram which were recommended by the prophet therefore falls on Friday Nov. 23 and Saturday 24th respectively.

In the same vein, he urges all, to continuously seek for Allah's forgiveness, be God-fearing, peaceful, hardworking, and steadfast, above all, be law abiding".
