Gambia: Car Dealer Convicted

One Ensa Jeng, a resident of New Jeshwang and car dealer, was last Monday convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of D5, 000, in default to serve one year's imprisonment. The convict was also ordered to refund the complainant's D20, 000 at the Bundung Magistrates' Court, presided over by Magistrate Kijera.

The convict, Ensa Jeng was charged with the offence of stealing by agent, contrary to Section 260(b) of the Criminal Code Cap 10 Volume III, Laws of The Gambia, 2009.

The particulars of the offence revealed that in the month of September 2012 at New Jeshwang in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused was given a vehicle machine to sell for D60, 000 by the complainant, Mansour Leigh, and an advanced payment of D20, 000 was paid to him for onward delivery to the said Mansour Leigh, in which he converted the said D20, 000 into his own personal use without the consent of the owner, Mansour Leigh, thereby committed an offense. In his plea of mitigation the convict begged the court for leniency.

Corporal 3577 Kebbeh represented the IGP.
