Kenya: State Gives Pledge On Konza ICT Launch

The Konza ICT park, Vision 2030 flagship project will be launched by the end of this year, senior Information ministry officials have said.

Business Outsourcing Director of administration and coordinator Henry Mung'asia and acting chief economist Paul Macharia said construction of a road to the project's sales pavilion and a car park are complete

They were speaking at the weekend when they joined their colleagues from the Roads and Water ministries to inspect the ongoing works at the technocity at Malili on the Nairobi-Mombasa road in Machakos and Makueni counties.

Mung'asia said one of the 10 proposed boreholes has been sunk to provide water for the initial construction at the 5000 acre site. He said the project will create employment for the youth as its feasibility study had shown that kenya could leverage on IT enabled BPO,software development and assembly of IT hardware.

"The drawings of the sales pavilion are being finalized by our consultants,HR&A advisers and the ministry is currently preparing to host the groundbreaking on a date to be confirmed", Mr. Macharia said.

He said local members of parliament and other community leaders from the two counties had expressed support for the mega project but lamented its launch was long overdue.
