Ghana: Fake Ghâ¢50 Notes Still in Circulation - BOG Warns

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has warned there are still fake GH¢ 50 notes in the system despite the recent upgrade.

The upgraded GH¢50 Cedi Bank note has a more secured and technologically advanced public recognition feature called "Spark" which was done after the rampant faking of the note.

According to the BoG, it has noticed there are still some of the fake currencies in the system but the Acting Governor, Dr. Henry Kofi Wampah has stated that the situation is not alarming.

"In terms of the GH¢50 cedi notes, I think we need to increase our publicity and also education on the use of the GH¢50 cedi notes on how to recognize the security features. Because I have seen one or two so called counterfeits of the GH¢50 cedi notes but it's so clear that you should be able to note that because it doesn't change colour," he said.

He mentioned that his outfit will intensify the sensitization of the public on how to check for the security features and called on the media to help in the education.

"When they get the note, they should just turn it a little, the colour will change but if the colour doesn't change, don't take it," he warned.
