Kenya: Kibabii Set to Get New Home

Kibabii Diploma Teachers College will move from its current location at Tuuti in Kanduyi constituency to Siyombe in Bumula. Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony at Siyombe, Education minister Mutula Kilonzo dismissed claims that the college will be swallowed up by the newly-created Kibabii University.

"The government realised that the gazette notice that created the university had been written erroneously to imply that after the formation of the university the teachers college will be scrapped. That is not the case," he said.

He said there is need to amend a clause in the legal notice. A group of residents has filed a lawsuit to stop the university from taking over the college.

Principal Jescah Simiyu requested the minister to ensure the legal notice is amended to reduce conflict between her institution and the university.
