Mkuranga — DEVELOPMENT in any country is brought about by people who are committed to working hard, the Korean Ambassador to Tanzania Mr Chung IL has said.
Speaking at Mfuru Mwambao village in Mkuranga district, Coast region, Mr Chung urged the villagers to support each other in implementing development projects. He stressed that Tanzania is blessed with abundant natural resources, adding that the public should now use them to improve their socio-economic lives.
"In 1960s, the Korean economy was the same as that of your country. Through cooperatives such as Saemaul Undong, we have been able to improve our economy," he explained.
Mbinga East Member of Parliament, who is also the coordinator of Saemaul Undong in the country, Mr Gaudence Kayombo said the government needs to focus on providing expertise to ensure economic growth from village to the national level.
"Mfuru village residents have made development strides because some of them have gone to Korea to learn entrepreneurship skills and how to be independent," he explained.
Mr Kayombo noted that it is time for Tanzanians to learn from Korea and strategies they employ to make in such big strides in development projects. "We are happy to receive this delegation from Korea that will conduct assessment of Mfuru village under the Saemul Undong plan," he explained.
He said benefits and experiences learned from Mfuru village will be spread to other villages across the country. "We have sent some people to South Korea to learn different strategies in entrepreneurship skills and we expect that they will teach others once they return," he added.
