Pretoria — Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Marius Fransman, will deliver a public lecture at the University of Stellenbosch on Wednesday.

According to the department, this is part of the build-up towards the 5th BRICS Summit which South Africa will host in March 2013 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

The theme of the lecture is entitled: "South Africa: A Strong African Brick within BRICS".

BRICS is an acronym for the grouping of the world's leading emerging market economies, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

The BRICS mechanism aims to promote development cooperation, security, peace and establishing a more equitable and fair world.

South Africa became a member of the BRICS in December 2010.
