The Rural Electrification Authority has connected power to more than 20,000 public facilities since its inception in 2007.
"REA has connected 21,125 major public facilities out of a total 25,525 bringing electrification status in the country to 83 per cent," said REA director engineer Njeri Kahiu.
She said the facilities have received electricity include trading centres, secondary schools and health centres. The remaining 1202 secondary schools will get power this year.
Engineer Kahiu was speaking at Kola market in Machakos town constituency where she said 110.17 million Ksh has been spent in electrification of public facilities in the constituency.
She added that the eleven non electrified secondary schools in the constituency will be implemented this year and thanked the local community for being supportive in granting way leaves.
