Kenya: Nyamanwa Fisherman Survives Hippo Attack
By Eric Oloo, 21 November 2012
A 19-year -old fisherman yesterday escaped death narrowly after he was attacked by a hippo at Nyamanwa Beach in Bondo. Boaz Midigo is recuperating at the Bondo District Hospital after he sustained wounds inflicted on him by the hippo.
According to Nyaduga assistant chief Domnick Adede, Midigo was attacked by the hippo shortly after he alighted from his canoe after a fishing expedition. He was rescued by his colleagues who responded to his distress call.
Adede said the same hippo killed a bull at a home on the beach. The incident comes barely two weeks after a 26-year-old fisherman drowned when his boat capsized after it was hit by a hippo at the nearby Siungu Beach.
