West Africa: UN Envoy - No Imminent Action in Mali

Military intervention in Mali is about a year away, Liberte quoted United Nations Sahel envoy Romano Prodi as saying Tuesday (November 20th) in Rabat. Speaking after holding talks with Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Eddine El Othmani, Prodi said that "military intervention could not take place before September 2013".

"My mission is to do everything to ensure peace and avoid war," he added.

For his part, El Othmani said Morocco favoured a political settlement of the conflict.
