Gambia: Mbye Njie's Trial Reaches Climax

The corruption trial involving the state against the former director of Operation at the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA), Mbye Njie, has reached the conclusion stage following Wednesday's hearing, presided over by Principal Magistrate Taiwo Ade Alagbe of the Banjul Magistrates' Court.

When the case came up, the state counsel A.M Yusuf produced the documents the defence counsel needed and requested for (the NDEA force order dated February 26th 2011 and the NDEA Bundung Station Dairy).

At that juncture, the defence counsel for the accused applied to tender the said documents in evidence, which were subsequently admitted and marked as defence exhibits 4 and 5 respectively.

The defence counsel, Lawyer L.K Mboge, then announced the closure of the defence case. The case was then adjourned to December 27th 2012 for adoption of briefs and if possible for reply on points of law by the defence counsel.
