Gambia: Man Arraigned for Obtaining Money By False Pretence

Dawda Nyang, a resident of Bijilo was on Tuesday arraigned at the Bundung Magistrates' Court charged with one count of obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to the Laws of The Gambia, in a hearing presided over by Magistrate Landing M. Sanneh.

The facts of the case revealed that on the 5th November 2012 at Bijilo, the accused, intent to defraud, obtained the amount of 1, 000 Euros from one Yan Clavssen with the pretext to purchase gold for the complainant, knowing such representation to be false and untrue, thereby committed an offence.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of D100, 000 with two Gambian sureties.

Meanwhile, the case was adjourned to November 26th 2012 for hearing. Corporal 3466 Sawaneh represented the IGP.
