SECOND phase of the Annual Tanzania Women of Determination Award is set to be rolled out next month at an event where increased number of women winning the prestigious awards is expected.

Women of Determination Awards and Conference Founder Fatma Salehe told reporters in Dar es Salaam that the award that recognises unique contributions of women in different sectors will this year cover 11 major categories in major economic sectors.

She said, awarded women will share their experience with others at a gala dinner, helping to inspire more women to move towards making great changes in their lives as well as contributing to the national economy.

"Women of Determination Conference is an initiative where women around Tanzania meet to increase their social economic self determination...it's done uniquely to address entrepreneurship traits that have helped many Tanzanian women to succeed," Fatma said.

She decried inadequacy of forums to enable young, energetic and aspiring girls and women share experiences of success in the country. Despite many initiatives which are set to help women in alleviating poverty, many women still face challenges.

Dr Ellen Otaru Okoedion, a partner of the company, said the awardees were nominated and chosen by the people themselves. This years awards will go to those who have touched lives and contributed to the community at various levels.

"These women have taken their time and initiative to work to make things happen. This is why we consider Women of Determination Awards to be different, because we want to show that women can achieve great results, they can make a difference and they should be aware that they have the capability in them.

All that they need is acknowledgement," said Dr Okoedion. The Conference Coordinator, Benadetha Choma said this year's theme; "To Build, To Recognize and To Connect," was carefully chosen because there are many women who have not yet identified their potentials simply because they have not been given that chance. DHL Tanzania Ltd and Covenant Bank are co-sponsoring the dinner gala.
