Kenya: Man Fined for Selling Brew

A couple has been arraigned in Mombasa and charged with selling alcoholic drinks without a license. Koki Orimba and Beatrice Adhiambo were allegedly found selling two litres of 'changaa' in Likoni in Mombasa county on November 20.

Orimba denied the charges and was released on a Sh5,000 surety bond. He case was put off until January 11. However his co-accused Adhiambo pleaded guilty and sentenced to a two-month jail term or pay a fine of Sh3,000.

In the same court, a 30-year-old man was charged with defiling a child aged four years. He was accused of two counts of defilement and committing an indecent act against the girl.

The court heard that on November 18 the man allegedly sexually ruined the minor at Leisure Estate in Kisauni district. In the second charge he was accused of intentionally touching the private parts of the young girl.

Appearing before Mombasa principal magistrate S.K Gacheru, the man pleaded not guilty to both charges. He was however released on a bond of Sh200, 000 and surety of similar amount.
