Abuja — The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloma Mukhtar will Friday swear in Justice Ifeoma Jombo-Ofo of the Court of Appeal.
She will take the oaths at the Supreme Court, Abuja.
The swearing in is coming on the heels of the decision by the National Judicial Council (NJC) on Wednesday that Jombo-Ofo be sworn in as Appeal Court justice.
Similarly, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke will today inaugurate the Governing Council of the National Human Rights Commission.
The delay in inaugurating the council has resulted in a backlog of petitions alleging various human rights violations.
The council could however not hear the petitioners because it had not been inaugurated.
An amendment to the statute establishing the commission has conferred more powers on the council including the powers to summon and compel witness attendance and to award compensation to victims of human rights violation.
The council is headed by renown human rights activist, Dr. Chidi Odinkalu.
