Nigeria: University of Abuja Sets Up Committee Over Students' Protests

An 8-man committee has been set up by the Senate of the University of Abuja at its 34th Extra-ordinary meeting to investigate the recent protest by students over non-accreditation of some courses. The courses are engineering, medicine and veterinary medicine.

The university was closed indefinitely on Wednesday following the two days of protest.

A statement 2011/12 second semester examinations which had been scheduled to commence on Monday, November 19.

The committee was given one month to investigate and submit its report.

Other members of the Committee are Professor J. O. Omole of the Department of English and Literary Studies; Professor P. O. Idisi, Director Sultan Maccido Institute of Peace and Strategic Studies; Professor G.C.O Nzelibe, Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences and Professor F.W. Abdulrahman, Dean, Postgraduate School.

Others are Professor Rhoda Mundi of the Department of Geography and Professor Uka Ezenwe of the Department of Economics while Mallam AbdulLaleem Haruna Esq of the University Legal Unit is to serve as Secretary.
