Nigeria: NIM Boosts Managerial Competence of Industry Chiefs

The Nigerian Institute of Management, NIM, said it has concluded its international training programme aimed at improving the managerial competence of top executives of both private and public organisations.

According to a statement signed by the President and Chairman of Council of the Institute, Dr. Michael Olawale-Cole, who was also the leader of the delegation to the training, "The programme was designed to enable executives and all those in top decision making positions not just to keep abreast of international best practices in leadership and management but also to imbibe the needed qualities and capabilities of managing their organisations better during these uncertain economic times."

Speaking further, he revealed that the programme equally provided the participants insight to managing change and leadership abilities and exposed them to real world and world class learning experience. "The participants were equally exposed to functional knowledge and intellectual skills to manage and lead their organisations with insight and success", he added.

According to the statement, the programme which had 'Managing Change During Uncertain Economic Times' as its theme was held in collaboration with McDonough Business School, Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA under the Top Executive Leadership Programme of the Institute.

Leadership and Accountability; Managing risk; Global Economics and Nigeria's Position; Corporate Governance; Strategic Performance Management; The New Shape of Global Fraud and Communicating your position were some of the sub-themes covered by the programme.

In another instance, in the spirit of world tolerance day declared by the United Nations and celebrated all over the world on November 16, Dr. Olawale-Cole urged Nigerians to be tolerant of one another.

Speaking at a gathering in his office to mark the world tolerance day, he tasked Nigerians to always "emphasise issues that unite the nation at these trying times instead of the ones that divide us."

He further reasoned that "When we respect our differences in culture and beliefs, we are directly and unconsciously promoting peaceful co-existence.

When people of different tongue, tribe and creed are tolerant of one another, the end result will be peaceful relations and the larger society will be better for it", he stressed.

He equally emphasised that if the nation and her people must experience meaningful development in leaps and bounds, Nigerians must learn to tolerate and respect their respective differences.

According to him, "Our diversity should be our strong and uniting force which ought to give us an edge above other nations who are not as lucky to have different tribes, religions and languages like us."
