Kenya: Top Names Expected to Grace Mt. Elgon Meeting

It's all systems go for the 4th edition of the KCB/Athletics Kenya weekend meeting at Kapsokwony High School in Mt Elgon.

AK western branch secretary, Simon Shikanga, said they had put final touches on the event, which will attract many runners from the region. Shikanga appealed to athletes from the region to turn up to a bid to make the event a success.

AK public relations officer, Peter Angwenyi, said over 500 athletes are expected to chase the Sh1.2million jackpot at the end of the seven-leg series. "Being the home of renowned athletes among them Linet Masai, Moses Masai, Leonard Komon, Shem Kororia and legendary Ben Jipcho, we expect a good turnout," he said. Angwenyi said besides the jackpot prize, winners in the four categories of 6km junior women, 8km junior men, 8km senior women and 12km senior men get cash awards.

Winners in each category will receive Sh20,000 with runners up and second runners-up pocketing Sh15,000 and Sh10,000 respectively. Others in the top six will equally return home rich.

Armed Forces, Police and Prisons are among the teams expected for the Kapsokwony show. Nyahururu, Machakos and Kisii hosted the opening three legs respectively.
